“The trail, now a hiking-biking path, follows a former
railroad right of way. Various points of interest along the way
include former dimension stone quarries in the Galena Limestone and
the Maquoketa Dolomite, and an underground iron (limonite) mine southwest
of Durango which operated about 1896. The iron mine included an
adit which extended for 1200'. However, it is unclear if any of
these sites are viewable from the trail, and apparently, there are few,
if any remains.”

- Greensburg (near), Iowa – Harris City Stone Quarry Near
Greensburg - Historical tour of Southern Decatur County, presented
by the Greensburg Chamber
of Commerce. (The link from which the following information
was obtained is no longer available.)
<http://www.greensburgchamber.com/default.htm>
The tour begins in Greensburg. The Harris City
Stone quarry is located about five miles south of Greensburg.
Once 300 men were employed by the stone quarry. The quarry was
known for its "blue-lime-stone rock," which was used in the construction
of the Indiana State house in Indianapolis, the U.S. Customs Building
in Cincinnati and the Proctor & Gamble soap factory near Cincinnati.
In 1897 the quarry filed for bankruptcy and was sold in 1989.
"As you leave Harris City, just outside of town..notice the stone fence
on the right that was also made of stone from the old quarry."
