    • Fallbrook, San Diego County, California – Rosemary’s Mountain Quarry’s Early Development  (The following excerpts are from “First Step Taken Toward Needed SR76 Improvements” (pdf), Granite Construction Company Press Release. 

      “Northern San Diego County.  After more than eighteen years, the first step has finally been taken toward widening and straitening a key 1.3-mile stretch of SR76 from Interstate 15 east towards Pala.  The initial development of Rosemary’s Mountain Quarry will be focused on providing construction materials needed for this initial segment of SR76….”

      “Granite is thrilled to finally begin work to widen this public highway and start development of the quarry project which will provide critically needed aggregate and asphalt for the next 20 years in Northern San Diego County and Southwest Riverside County….”

      “….The permitting process for Rosemary’s Mountain Quarry was started nearly 20 years ago by Hal Jensen of Palomar aggregates….”

      Rosemary’s Quarry

      “A rock quarry at Rosemary's Mountain will begin operating this year north of Route 76 about 1 miles east of I-15.  The quarry was proposed more than 20 years ago.

      “Granite Construction plans to mine a 38-acre portion of a 94-acre site near the mountain for aggregate, a mix of sand and crushed rock, which are the main ingredients in asphalt and concrete….”

      “…Once that section of the highway is rebuilt, probably in about three years, the quarry should generate 200 to 300 truck trips a day.”

      Historical Perspective

      “Palomar Aggregates applied for first permit in 1987

      This document includes a section on “Quarry Development,” which presents photographs of the projected quarrying plans and photographs of the quarry area.  Construction began on May 2008.  This section also presents photographs of the permanent aggregate plant.

      Rosemary Quarry is a hard granite rock quarry located in a valley between two mountain slopes.  The quarry is adjacent to SR 76 where the hillsides are strewn with boulders of various shapes and sizes….”
