| The B.R. Prince and Garibardi Building - This is the only building left in Altaville, which lies adjacent to Angels Camp. The building was built of dressed blocks of rhyolite tuff. |
The third day we visited the old Prince and Garibardi store, the only building left in Altaville, which lies adjacent to Angel's Camp. It is built of dressed blocks of rhyolite tuff, and the quarry can be found one mile east of Altaville on the Murphys Grade Road on a butte. The rhyolite tuff quarry can still be seen from the road, and it is still in operation. In the past the quarry provided stone for buildings in Altaville, Angels Camp, Vallecito, and places at greater distances. The stone has been quarried there since the 1850s.
